Point A to Point B

CAMPAIGN | TYPOGRAPHY | ANIMATION

Los Angeles is the city known as the driving city the world’s most congested city. I have lived in Los Angeles just about my entire life -- it is known to be a city you can’t live in without a car, and the traffic is absolutely horrendous. As we look into the future, we have concerns of global warming, gas consumption, and the increasing population. This thought started to make me think about the bus systems in Los Angeles and how we could improve them. When I was growing up, I took the bus a handful of times but I always found it extremely confusing to navigate the city, change buses, and figure out when the bus was actually coming. At bus stops in Los Angeles, the signage consists of a tiny sign that is impossible to read unless you are a couple of feet away from it. It lists which bus it is and which direction it is going. If you are standing across the street, you have to walk across and read the minuscule sign directing you on which bus to take.

HOW CAN WE USE TYPOGRAPHY AND SIGNAGE TO
INCREASE THE USE OF THE BUS SYSTEM IN LOS ANGELES?

Animated Signage

The animated signage shows the Bus Number, the direction of the bus, and the specific station. My solution to the problem of minuscule bus signage and confusing signs was to use kinetic typography. I chose kinetic typography because I believe that it is easy to read from a distance, easy to understand, and eye-catching. Not only will this solve the problem but also will attract more people to commute by bus instead of individual cars.

If you want to hear more in-depth research here is a link to my research essay on the topic of why I believe Kinetic Typography is the answer to the bus signage issue throughout Los Angeles. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Mf91zig2hyftylrR3qm8y1hFzdSUxq7T/view?usp=sharing
